A major manufacturer of custom cable for communications asked us to provide a product that could be used to protect and enable the cable in case of fire. The product we provided was a S/W-7 which is slit into ¾" – 1 ½" widths and wrapped on the cable. When fire burns the insulation away the fire turns the S/W-7 into a silicone char, much like the tiles of the heat shield of the Space Shuttle, and allows for the continued transmission of information.
